"Talk To Me" project at Jack Straw Studios

I have been selected for a residency at Jack Straw Studios for my Talk to Me recording project.

Talk to Me is a music piece featuring voice, acoustic guitar, homemade and custom made cigar box guitars, an original “5 string thing” instrument and a custom made miniature guitar. It is a sound symphony exploring the theme of talk in 7 short movements. The first movement will be a short acoustic guitar piece with the words “talk to me” repeated throughout the piece by different voices. The second movement will be a song with the words “that’s what you get, what did you expect, when you give a phone to a human animal?” with staged phone conversations layered into the music. The following movement will explore the theme using an “original 5 string thing” instrument with the words "talk to me" again repeated, followed by a cigar box guitar instrumental with a rhythmic wall of talk behind it, followed by a short staged therapy session with music on a miniature guitar in the background, followed by a miniature guitar instrumental titled Interplanetary Chatter. The last movement, listen, will feature cigar box guitar and voices, with the lyrics “in that place, in that space, you could hear poetry of human talk”.

I will be kicking off the residency with recording sessions at Jack Straw Studios in Seattle on July 18th and 19th from 2 to 6 PM. I am very happy to have Rani Weatherby and Rich Hinrichsen join me on the July 18th session to add their voices and creative talents to the mix.
